My name is Leslie Gerth and I am a second grade teacher at North Ohio Elementary School in Gaylord, Michigan. I have been teaching at North Ohio on a full time basis since 2005. Before that, I worked at Gaylord Community Schools as a teacher's assistant and substitute teacher starting in 1996.
In all of my years of substitute teaching and full time teaching, I have taught at all grade levels from preschool through high school. However, most of my career has been spent at the second and third grade levels. Teaching is a relatively new career for me. I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in Business French and English Linguistics from Eastern Michigan University in 1990. I then spent many years as a stay at home mom raising my two beautiful children. Kyle is a proud 2013 graduate of Michigan State University with a degree in Media Communication and Technology and Computer Science. Danielle is a junior at Grand Valley State University studying elementary education, history, and political science. During my children's school years, I attended Grand Valley State University working toward my Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language Arts and elementary education. Most recently, I have been attending Michigan State University to earn a Master of Arts Degree in Educational Technology. I have always been interested in computers and the newest technology. It is very exciting to learn new technologies and work on repurposing them to create more meaningful, up-to-date lessons in my classroom. Personally, I enjoy living in the relatively quiet, small town of Gaylord. In the spring, summer, and fall, I spend a lot of time working outdoors in my garden, walking my dog, riding my bike, or strolling the streets of northern Michigan small towns. Since I am not a winter sports enthusiast, my outdoor activities during the winter are limited to snow shoveling or snow blowing. I enjoy reading and cooking year round. |
